QASUR CHILD ABUSE CASE: HIGH TIME TO CHANNELIZE A FRUSTRATED SOICETY

Sexual crimes of different nature have been a factor of Pakistani society which leaves us in a state of shock from time to time. Latest event been rape and murder of Qasur’s innocent Zainab. Lot has been said on this issue and as I write these lines, her murderer is still unknown. This will soon become a story of past, people will again get busy in their own lives until another such event takes place (Allah forbid). It is a fact that only those effected can feel the real pain and all others are mere commentators.

However, if we think sensibly it is an issue for all of us. Moral decline and frustration is on the rise. Every now and then, we hear events of Sexual Harassment, rape of innocent women and in worst cases our little angels are effected. There have even some cases of men abused by some ambitious women. Adultery (of all forms) being considered a smaller crime compared to former ones. If a diagnosis is carried out, we will find out that roots of all such acts are same. If we really want to solve these issues, then we need to really analyze this and implement solutions to root out such awful acts. Human being carry 3 fundamental urges 1) Urge to Live, 2) Urge to Pleasure and 3) Urge to Power. Here the issue is with elements of ‘Urge to Pleasure’, which has not been dealt appropriately in our society.

Talking on this issue is a Taboo, which needs to be broken at this point of time if not at a later stage. Damage control needs to be done.

Lack of correct information

In my opinion, people are not been fed with knowledge about this desire/urge and how to fulfil it. Adding to that, the overall atmosphere of society is also not monitored which adds to confusion and frustration of people leading to such events.

Children are not made aware of probable issues that they might face in this regard. However as the child grows up, his/her body is developed with related emotions. Adding to lack of correct information, he finds bold scenes in the movies and dramas. His/her desires gets a peak with the passage of time. He/she receive information from his/her colleagues or available information from other sources such as internet. Due to lack of formal guidance, many people consider themselves as severely infected and fight undue psychological pressures. Proper knowledge is never conveyed to them.

Sexual Harassment as topic was covered by one of our valiant University teacher which was largely skipped by female students. We also attended with a sense of shyness but it was worthy sessions, which opened our eyes to many issues along with their solutions. There was no indecency involved within those lectures in fact we were given real life examples for sexual harassment. That was first and last formal information that I received in life.

Vulgarity in media

Women is used as a show piece to attract customers. Bold advertisements, dressing of women and the content topics are irresponsibly handled. Such dreamy situations is contrary to situation on ground and takes a person to a different world in which controlling their thoughts and emotions become even a bigger test. Mini cinemas and internet are easily accessible to the young boys where their minds are infiltrated with such dirty things. Within many of the Investigation programs, the topics of sexual harassment and male-female affairs are telecasted irresponsibly giving them a wrong lesson at large.

Nikah (Marriage)

Today, getting married has become very difficult, as people have lifted their demands to sky limits. Useless norms and traditions like Mehndi, Dholki and Dowery etc have made it difficult for a normal person to get married. I know a person who was not initiating his life partner search as he was first targeting to gather Rs.10 lacs and it took another about 1.5 years when he achieved 10 lacs; this is so unfair due to peer pressures. Multiple marriage is considered as a crime. These difficulties often end up in opening doors of adultery/sex crimes within people.

Involvement of Powerful People

During Qasur’s child abuse case, a couple of years back, involvement of some really powerful people was found as reported by media. That story got refreshed this time but it’s yet to reach its logical conclusion.

Some people shamelessly try to forces working ladies in doing questionable acts as part of blackmailing using their seat and influence. Lately, news channels have revealed such mean people.

TO DO’S

Islamic Teachings

We need to be very clear in our approach. At one place we claim to be Muslims and nationals of an Islamic state but at the other place shy away when anybody talks about obeying Islam and implementing Islamic Laws. Fahashi (Vulgarity) is one of main topics of Quran. Allah (S.W.T.) sets clear principles of Parda (veil) and other measures to avoid ultimate incident of Zina (Infidelity).

“Tell the believing men to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts). That is purer for them. Verily, Allah is All-Aware of what they do. “ ( An-Noor, Chapter #24, Verse #30) (Ref #1)

We take reference from Hadith regarding fundamental teachings of Islam to avoid Zina (Adultery)

Narrated Ibn `Abbas:

I did not see anything so resembling minor sins as what Abu Huraira said from the Prophet, who said, “Allah has written for the son of Adam his inevitable share of adultery whether he is aware of it or not: The adultery of the eye is the looking (at something which is sinful to look at), and the adultery of the tongue is to utter (what it is unlawful to utter), and the innerself wishes and longs for (adultery) and the private parts turn that into reality or refrain from submitting to the temptation.”

In-book reference: Book 82, Hadith 18

USC-MSA web (English) reference : Vol. 8, Book 77, Hadith 609

(Ref #2)

Strict Islamic Laws must placed in the society. Making an example out of such people will serve the cause by inducing fear.

Ulema (Islamic Scholors) should address the causes and effects of such issues. In Zainab’s case as well; I was wondering where all of those big names hiding out and not giving any guidance statement to millions of their followers. Most of us are not aware about the composition of human body (material and spiritual aspects) and how to stream lines requirements associated with our being as per teachings of Islam. Everyone should make effort to get used to of Islamic practices in this regard.

Our Nation needs a Sex Vaccination

Like vaccines are provided for various diseases ,like the war strategy is made , like controlling the law and order ; sexual issues must be taken up as well. Some suggestions listed are listed below:

  • Indulgence of proper knowledge among growing children and awareness of how to react in case any such enticement is there by an offender. Basic information regarding human body, Male-Female couple relationship to be clearly conveyed to avoid un-necessary curiosity/uncertainty in young generation’s mind. Father can tell his son and mother can tell her daughter regarding this. Furthermore, separate Boys-Girls class sessions can be designed in which message appropriate to a certain age group can be conveyed wisely.
  • Easy weddings to be promoted and useless practices like Mehndi, Dholki and other non-Islamic functions to be curtailed which will reduce the load on masses especially low income class. Encouraging unmarried people to get married via collective marriages.
  • Multiple marriage for men is considered a sin in our society; we are in a state of denial on this issue which can become a tool to give support to thousands of unmarried women.
  • Media must be responsible as regards to content they air. Ladies specially must be cautious regarding their get up.
  • Reaching out the explicit content to be made as difficult as possible with technology and severe punishments.
  • Doctors and psychologists need to come forward with articles and short videos to provide basic sex education to masses.
  • Why child abuse cases are hitting Qasur so hard? this should be seriously researched out. Also to other notorious parts of country infected by such ailments needs to be addressed.

Current system and government is most likely not to take this up seriously. Severity of such issues calls for an immediate action adopting solutions like above in our daily lives. We need to be proactive & aggressive to deal with problems as regards to sexual needs like we carry out arrangements for our living (food, clothes and shelter). This will surely bring a huge drop in the sexual crimes and making our society a better place.

Destructive topics in Pakistani Dramas!

“Reviewing current trend of unhealthy topics like Divorce and invitation for producing healthy dramas with strong topics!!!”
In my school days, there was a scenario in a drama named ‘Ye Zindagi’ featuring Nauman Aijaz and Mah Noor Baloch. After a brisk love marriage, the couple broke up soon after; however, after realizing this fatal mistake the husband suggested “Halalah” to his ex-wife. This was a new term for me and straight away I asked my father “Dad what is this Halalah?”. My father somehow handled my question and told that was just nothing…Remember, that time was almost ending period of golden Pakistani dramas. Indian dramas soon captured our market for quite a significant amount of time during early 2000’s. Pakistani drama then fought back its way lately and even influenced the Indian market due to some good dramas. This was indeed a good feeling for seasoned viewers of Pakistani dramas.
It has been noticed that our dramas are yet again falling behind of topics as most of the stories are circulating around the marriage issue of loving man and woman. These are filmed in very sophisticated locations/ homes but the inmates are displaying ultimate immoral attitude and filthy family politics. I have noticed that relationship of husband–wife in many current dramas is shown in complicated status which ends up in Divorce. The scene of fight and shooting 3 words of Talaq are shown often as if it’s a very normal thing and part of our society.

I can certainly recall that during my childhood days’, divorce was never too often discussed within sections of society but with the passage of time and influence of abundantly produced dramas; Divorce has become a very common topic. Remember this is most unlikeable Halal act in Islam. We can see the impacts of showing/discussing this topic as the lives of many media celebrities are very unstable and also the rate of divorce is rising within society. Young innocent minds are definitely catching up this and can practice it very well in their practical life without realizing the real consequences. The environment in which you live your life counts a lot for you and watching such topics certainly makes their place in sub-conscious of mind and can get you in such a situation where a minor conflict can result in fatal event of Divorce.Stop-Separation-and-Divorce-Problems

We have to be responsible in protecting this noble institution of marriage by influencing positive topics to flourish this relationship. Instead of complicated Husband-Wife relationships, why can’t we cover strong bond and examples of how they supported each other during times of financial crisis or in case of severe health problems? Every other day, we can see highlights of many brilliant stories of common Pakistanis on various social media platforms like “Humans of Pakistan”; we can make many dramas out of them. I cannot forget fantastic pictures/stories covered by Brandon Stenton of “Humans of New York” while he visited Pakistan back in 2015. Why not glorify our enthusiastic and most resilient people instead of showing cunning stories of disgrace and betrayal between them?

There are hundreds of genuine topics speared in the society including life cycle of overseas expatriate people and their families back home. Topics related with various ongoing army operations and their effects on related people.  Topics related to the success stories of un-known heroes may well be covered as pay back to them; this would certainly inspire others. We can cover lives of our forgotten heroes (and living heroes) from education, science, arts, armed forces and sports. Dramas can be made covering issues related with special children and their status in the society. Media can cover conditions of people related with various organizations such as Pakistan railways, PIA, Sui-Gas and private media itself to make people realize efforts and issues related to them and better understand their lives. Above all, on the education and training side; topics covering the ideology of Pakistan depicting true goals for which Pakistan was created must be shown as a national duty.
TV channels can invite and appreciate young authors for getting fresh out of the box stories. I am certain that different and genuine topics shall definitely grab more audience and shall certainly be equally or even more successful in the monetary terms as well. We can certainly work our way towards improving society by taking such steps.
Let’s realize the important of topics covered in our dramas and take a first step today!

Qabristan, The final Destination! #29

Qabristan

What is the current use of graveyards? Are we caring the place meant to be our last resting place??

Can we start working for our last resorts???

Current poor condition of Graveyards and chances of Betterment…

The other day I just asked my fellow Pakistani colleague about the bad condition of Graveyards in Pakistan; expressing my sorrow for filthy condition and odd use of many graveyards in our country. “We all know, this is our last resting place. When I wonder how many rich, able, beautiful and important people are buried in the graveyard (having a miserable outlook); I really fell sorry and think about what would happen to me. Will I be resting in the same filthy Qabristan after spending whole of my life willing to be clean and live clean?” I raised the point to him. “In a country where living people do not have any importance; who the Hell will care about the dead” He replied in a pungent manner…

“Every soul shall have taste of death; In the end to us shall ye be brought back
.”(Surah Al-‘Ankabut ; Paara 21 Ayah No. 57)

The above ayah starts revolving whenever I visit the graveyard. When we go to bury some near and dear one. When some puppet leader or Government Official behaves in an undaunted manner against Islamic way of life. When people use their power and authority to their own interests, not caring about their responsibilities towards a common man. Have they forgotten death? Do they not know about the final accountability in the Darbaar of Allah on the dooms day??? I often wonder this, I often wonder this…Khair baat dur tak nikal gayee!

It all started during my latest visit this EID-UL-ADHA to Pakistan and witnessing poor conditions of one of Graveyards of Karachi called “Rehri Goth ka Qabristan” which is one of biggest in the city. Uncontrolled growth, dirty area, wild bushes, miserable condition of graves; it seem like it has just gone through some catastrophe. If you are visiting any old grave, then the pathway will just make you wonder you are one character of some adventurous movie. You have to make your way in between the graves in a puzzled manner and avoiding wild bushes with severe nails and remain careful regarding any wild lizards.

Looking back, we are occasional visitors of this Qabristan on an average 2-3 times in a year usually at the EIDs and Shab-e-Baraat. Shab-e-Baraats are used to be vibrant and see somewhat better arrangements with lighting and somewhat settled condition of this place. We have seen the rapid growth in the graveyard during our life spans. Elders and known acquaintances passed away and became residents of this graveyard. The whole place filled up and people even built graves at the verge of walkways. Increasingly bad law and order situation in the vicinity of this area with time and busy people not thinking much about their last resting place. But one thing which is common at large, yesterday and today; it’s bad condition. The condition was bad yesterday and today it’s not getting any better.

So, we went to this graveyard to visit graves of our forefathers. After fateha, we found a Gorkanand hired him for cleaning and repairing graves. This guy was old in his early fifties and was talking unstoppably counting things that he can do and things he will do. “Beta aj tum apne buzurgoo’n ki Qabroon ko nahee dekho ge tu kal koi tumhari Qabroo’n ko bhee nahee dekhay ga” he said and rightly so. We have to arrange this privately because the government priorities have not reached this point to clean last resting place of their citizens.

While we were trying to arrange cleaning and repairing of these graves; my uncle suddenly noticed talking voice coming out of nowhere. We looked the vicinity around and found out two men talking to each other right up on the trees. They were GUP-SHUPPING in such an easy way that they have no ghum in their lives. Later, I was told some people relating to the Interior have such a habit of discussion forums on the branches of trees. Woow man, new thing for me!

We then discussed the spreading and growth of this graveyard and how the trends of visiting graves are now changed. To be noted, there is a distinctive pathway bisecting this graveyard. “Beta people who used to visit this side (where old graves lies) are now resting on the other side (the relatively newer graves); so here you can witness a whole change of generation”: Uncle said. “We will soon be here sooner or later; will anybody take care of our graves? Will we have a peaceful end? Are we doing anything to secure good places in aakhirat?” I was all surrounded with such questions…

When I went back the other day to checkout the progress of maintenance works; this Gorkancame and showed me things he had carried out including cleaning of whole lot (our family graves) and repairing grave of my grandfather. I reminded him of what still needed to be done. His counterpart/helper spoke out in the middle “Bhai jaan mai apko theak batata hoon, yeh Qabristan ka purana hissa hai aur yahan iswaqt khara hona theak nahee hai; lutairay kisi bhee waqt ajate hai aur paise mobile wagaira cheen lete hai; so better we should talk outside this area”. So we quickly went away to discuss the remaining work in a much safer area. And rightly so I am often told by my family “We are not going to Graveyard these days because of vibrant criminal activity there”. It’s really painful to see such condition that these places are now been governed by criminals and who can loot you while you are there to visit graves of your dear and near ones. People who were a must for this world once, who kept themselves neat and clean, pious women; all of them now resting in graveyards catering all sorts of odd activities. Aaaah!

Apart from above; we have witnessed businesses of jaali pirs and their activities surrounding these graveyards. TV shows have often exposed such elements and their illogical and heinous activities by which they capture/destroy innocent people. People use the graveyards to doTaaveez dhaagay and Jadoo Tona which is clearly a sign of bad belief and diversion from the Islamic teachings. We also see rounders and addicted people using graveyards as places ofpeaceful activities. This is clearly an alarming situation and people should start thinking upon a social turnaround; we can at least get lesson from civilized nations who are keeping their graveyards up to the mark.

Government surely will not think about this; they have other important things to do like preparing their next generations to rule us in future… I am just wondering if social welfare organizations may take an initiative to keep up graveyards. If famous companies can adopt roundabouts/signals for their publicity; why can not they provide some funds for graveyards as their social responsibility? Can media take some time out to address these issues and spread social awareness? If not, we can make small individual family groups for take care of small bits of our family graves. This will encourage other people to realize their responsibilities. Remember death can reach us anytime, anywhere and at any age. Will you like to be surrounded by all above mess? It’s a NO from my side; what do you say???
